De Boer delivers steel for offshore vesselFebruary 2010 – De Boer Staal has supplied profiles and “rub rails”, fenders made from sheet steel, for the construction of an offshore ship. The ship will be used for inspection, maintenance and repair work on offshore installations, but also for hoisting and diving work in the Gulf of Mexico. The increasing number of far offshore projects has pushed up demand for larger and more stable offshore construction, inspection and supply vessels (85 metres or longer) equipped to execute complex assignments. The vessel is 86 metres long and 18 metres wide, and it has a large cargo deck covering 743 m2. The ship has a “moon pool” measuring 6 x 7 metres and a 100 ton crane. The moon pool is a sort of hole in the ship through which installation and repair equipment can be lowered into the sea, allowing work to be done quickly and flexibly. The divers and the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) can also leave and enter the ship through the moon pool. The crane is used to lift heavier and larger equipment that can't exit the ship through the moon pool. The ship provides accommodation for a crew of 66 and she has a cinema, a gym, a hospital and a conference room. She also has a helicopter pad for transferring the crew from ship to shore. |
